Strategies for Accomplishment
I plan to prepare three rules for the classroom that will encompass all aspects of student behavior. This will make it easier to enforce the rules long-term. Students will be involved in rule-making and rules will be posted in the classroom where they are clearly seen.
The Flinn Scientific Middle School Laboratory Safety Certification Course is free to complete. The program is six hours long and available online. I am currently applying to the University of Nevada - Las Vegas for secondary science education, which involves writing completing the application, writing a personal statement, and providing two professional references. This includes organizing all the teaching materials I have accumulated and created within the past three years in the UFTeach Science minor so that my teaching materials are ready to be used and implemented. I plan on posting the majority of it on this website so that others may have access to it. In order to obtain my temporary certification, I have completed the Praxis I and am currently studying for the Secondary Biology Praxis II. I will also complete necessary training through a summer training institute provided by Teach For America. Strategies for Accomplishment
I should be completed with the Master's of Education program at University of Nevada - Las Vegas in two years. I will be earning my degree at the same time I am teaching full-time within a science middle-school classroom.
I will collaborate with my school administration to complete the peer-reviewed assessment process that evaluates me based upon the five core propositions. Due to the amount of technology that is used within everyday society, it is important students know how to use it in relation to scientific concepts. This goal will be accomplished by slowly incorporating more activities that use technology such as laptops for simulations and projects, calculators, and probes. In order to have the necessary materials and technology for lessons, it is important to proactive about finding sources of funds. I plan to improve my grant writing skills by applying for at least one grant each school year in addition to asking for feedback on proposals that have failed to receive funding. Project based instruction units are very worthwhile so that students can learn scientific concepts and apply them to real-world problems and situations. However, they also require a lot of time and effort to create. For this reason, I would like to create one new project based instruction unit each school year after my first year of teaching. |
