DNA Structure Jeopardy: used to review the scientists that discovered DNA and to review the structure of DNA

Have Your DNA and Eat It Too!
Jelly beans instead of marshmallows were used for the lesson plan. Students were required to show model to teacher and demonstrate knowledge of base pair bonds before they were allowed to eat candy. |
|
Model DNA Translation: Index cards were made with mRNA codons and corresponding anticodons. The cards were scrambled and given to students. One side of the classroom was the nucleus where all the students with codons lined up as a mRNA molecule and another side of the classroom was the cytoplasm with a ribosome tacked to the wall. Each student with an anticodon must find the correct corresponding amino acid. The mRNA line moves to the cytoplasm and one by one tacks up their codon naming the anticodon that must match with them.

Photosynthesis Lab: This worksheet supplemented the two-day lesson on photosynthesis.

|
Pathway of a Red Blood Cell: A huge diagram of the heart was drawn and taped on the floor in the middle of the classroom. Students walked the path of a red blood cell. When students traveled to the lungs they picked up a tennis ball (oxygen) to become "oxygenated." They dropped off the tennis ball in the tissues of the body before returning to the heart.
